Believe it or not, summer is winding down, and next weekend we’ll be celebrating the last hurrah of the season, Labor Day. We know you’ve been busy sending the kids back to school and probably haven’t had a second to sit down and make holiday plans. But luckily, there’s still plenty of time to piece together a Labor Day celebration for your family and friends, with a little help from our Labor Day party tips.
Labor Day Decor
There are a couple directions to go with your Labor Day decor. Many opt for a patriotic look, which can be achieved with our Picnic Basket party theme. It can also be fun, though, to switch things up and make your Labor Day celebration themed with a summery feel. Our Cherry Gingham party decorations (shown above) would be perfect for the occasion, as would any of our summer party supplies.
No matter what theme you choose, your Labor Day decorations can be simple and laid-back, just like summer. For the tables, use simple tablecovers and place a floral arrangement of summer blooms in the center of each table. String globe lights around the party area and set around lots of citronella candles to ward off pesky mosquitoes!
Labor Day Food
Go all-American with your Labor Day menu, which means heating up the grill one more time before summer ends. Go with classics, like burgers and hot dogs. Also grill some veggies, such as corn, zucchini, and foil pouches of potatoes and onions.
For sides, make classics like macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and coleslaw. Your guests will relish in one last summer cookout!
To drink, fill coolers with ice and chill a variety of summer beers and white wine. Also serve classic sodas in glass bottles. For dessert, cut up a juicy watermelon and bake a pie featuring in-season berries.
Labor Day Entertainment
Keep the crowd outside and enjoying the last warmth of the season. Set around a variety of lawn games, such as croquet, horseshoes, ladderball, and cornhole. Let your guests mix and mingle and play the games as they please.
As the sun starts to set, break out sparklers for the kids (under adult supervision) and stage a mini fireworks show for your guests. It’s the perfect way to bid summer farewell!
How do you plan to spend the long holiday weekend?
